Unique University Collaborations
Nurse Practitioner Program
We have a formal partnership with Carlow University’s Nurse Practitioner (NP) Program. Carlow NP faculty work in the Campus Lab School and provide clinical instruction and oversight in all aspects of pediatric health and illness management to registered nurses who are students in the NP Program. Registered nurses and graduate students in Carlow University’s Nurse Practitioner program complete their pediatric practicum at the Campus Lab School and provide health education to individual students and groups of students. This provides daily on-site nurses for our School community.

Love is Colorful: A K-8 Project
Love is Colorful is an exhibition produced by Carlow’s Teaching Artist Resident, alumnae Sarah Zeffiro. Ms. Zeffiro is working with Carlow’s Campus Laboratory School K-8 students and faculty to produce art and creative content centered on developing confidence by engaging the senses through multimedia learning that includes 2D, 3D, digital art, English Language Arts, mindfulness and play. The residency culminates with the interactive Love is Colorful exhibition in the University Art Gallery opening fall of 2021. Throughout the exhibition, the Carlow University Art Gallery will become a learning laboratory for classes, lectures and art making. The Love is Colorful project expands as packaged curriculum and interactive learning experience for institutions or museums. Designed to amplify voices through the sharing and learning of stories, the project seeks to grow community through respect, creative expression and empathy. The Campus Lab School students participated in two units of study, Who Am I? in the Fall of 2020, and Who Are You? in Spring 2021. The Campus Laboratory Students will create a collaborative mosaic mural exploring The Sisters of Mercy critical concerns (earth, non-violence, non-racism, immigration and women) during a two-week 2021 Summer camp.
Students in PreK-8th grade visit and engage in the Art Galley.
“A local gallery with a global reach, the Carlow University Art Gallery is the only art space in the Pittsburgh region dedicated to art and social justice. Our project is to embody the unique mission of Carlow through professionally curated exhibitions, to bridge campus and community, and to extend the teaching space through innovative public programming and experiential learning” (https://www.carlow.edu/about/campus-locations/art-gallery/).
Through a partnership with the Psychology Department, University graduate students seeking a Psychology doctorate degree complete a year-long internship in The Campus Lab School providing direct support, professional development, parent workshops, and more.
Biology and Chemistry Departments
Biology and Chemistry Departments of Carlow University partner with The Campus Lab School in several ways. Middle school students utilize University science labs for micro-experiments throughout the school year. Science Honorary University students provide an interactive Science day every spring on our green lawn in front of the school. Additionally, University faculty and staff in the science support the Science Mentor program.
to allow our students to utilize the university lab for micro experiments and to create the Science Mentors The program pairs middle school students with a science mentor for support and guidance throughout the Science Fair process; Carlow University faculty members and upper level University STEM students with scientific expertise they are willing to share, are partnered for this one-on-one mentorship.
